about

PLEASE NOTE: These recordings were done in the rehearsal space on what would barely be recognized as recording equipment. They are therefor very rough but since these are the only recordings ever made of these songs, and of this era of the band, they still have merit. You'll just have to use your imagination and fill in the frequency gaps and ignore the unintended distortion and noise. That being said, these songs really completes the Brimstone picture since the latter half of the bands existence never was recorded professionally.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After rehearsing for a while in the basement of Henrik's parents' house we eventually moved to a room in the basement beneath the gymnasium at Alfaskolan. Tid Är Musik, which is the local music association in Fagersta, had several rooms in the basement where lots of great bands rehearsed. We initially shared a room with Raw Justice but they soon moved out so we got the room for ourselves. It was great being around other bands, the guys from 59 Times the Pain sometimes poked their heads through the door while we were rehearsing. There was even a recording studio in one of the rooms, Studio Cave, which was run by Pontus Ekwall (Bad Dreams Always). Studio Cave still exists but has since moved to a different location.

Sometime in 1998, Jonas Calander joined the band on guitar. These recordings (apart from track 3, 4 and 8) features this lineup of the band. It is really great that we did these recordings in the rehearsal space since we never got around to record them properly. The songs really takes Brimstone one step further and they're a great complement to the demo tapes. In one way they actually captures the intensity and fun of the band better than any of the studio recordings.

You could argue that Brimstone ended with that lineup. Late 1998 or early 1999 the band was reformed with Anders on drums, Daniel on bass, and Tobias on guitar and vocals. We still used the same band name but did all new songs which went in a slightly different direction than the previous Brimstone material. A lot more rock influenced. They are still great songs though, which you could say about all of Brimstone's output. It's a real shame that none of this was captured properly. Actually, one of the songs, "Crystal Twilight", was recorded by Tobias and Anders at Studio Cave in the fall of 1999. That recording is available here as well, see the discography section.

There was actually one more incarnation of Brimstone before it all ended. During 1999 there were some songs written with Jonas behind the drumkit, Daniel on bass, and Tobias on guitar and vocals. There may exist some recordings of this as well somewhere. These were recorded in the same room and on the same equipment as these recordings here, so they have a place beside the songs above if they should ever surface.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After 1999 we all went our separate ways, well almost. Anders and Henrik started to play in CDOASS. Henrik later left the band and then Daniel joined CDOASS who released an album, "Extra Fingers", produced by Christian Falk (Imperiet) and was nominated for a Swedish Grammy in 2005. They've also released a bunch of singles. CDOASS has toured with The Hives and Bad Cash Quartet.

Anders and Jonas started to play together in Alex Carole & The Crush of which The Hives has covered "High School Shuffle", from AC&TC's debut album "Vol. 1" (co-produced by Chris Dangerous) from 2011. Alex Carole has continued to release several more records since then.

Jonas also plays in Rättens Krater who released their debut album "Bygga Upp Ett Stort Berg" on the American label Dead Beat Records in 2014. Rättens Krater has also released a 7" called "Stora Stöten" prior to that on Republiken Bergslagen Grammofon and have continued to release records on several other international labels.

Anders played with Bruket as well who released an album in 2010 called "En annan klass", produced by Pelle and Nicke Almqvist (The Hives). They've also toured with The Hives.

Tobias went on to do solo recordings under the name Daisy Pusher (later just Tobias E.) and played in Light Screamer, who released their debut album "Gauss", mastered by Paul Leary (Butthole Surfers), in 2013 on American label Australian Cattle God Records. He was also a member of The Sun, The Moon & The Witch's Blues who released a 7" on the German label Rock Freaks Records in 2016.
