about

This demo cassette was originally released in 1997.

In October of 1997 it was time for Brimstone, which we by now had shortened our name to, to record our second demo. We had learned our lesson from the first demo so we booked two days at Punkpalatset in Örebro to record 4 songs. We packed up our gear and off we went to Örebro, which is about an hour drive south of Fagersta. Punkpalatset (later Soundlab) was a renowned studio run by Mieszko Talarczyk (Nasum) in which many great bands have recorded (Millencolin mentions Punkpalatset in their song "Chiquita Chaser" for example).

The two days spent at Punkpalatset with Mieszko were great. In contrast to our first recording session this was actually relaxed and fun. We borrowed a bass guitar from Kimmo Kirvesmäki (Voice of a Generation), that's the "Voice of a generation guy" mentioned in the credits, and we spent the night at Pelle Almqvist's (The Hives) dorm room on Studentgatan by the university (he wasn't using it at the time). The four of us all slept on one mattress on the floor which meant we had a mattress under our torsos and our legs on the floor. That night Fireside played a show in town but since Daniel and Henrik were only 17 and the age limit was 18 we decided not to go. Anders and Tobias were 18 but we wanted to hang out together as a band.

Mieszko took us to eat at Shanghai, an Asian restaurant. He wore a "Scan" t-shirt, which was sort of a reverse statement since most of us were vegetarian/vegan (and "Scan" is a meat brand). The only thing else I remember about Mieszko, apart from him being very nice, is that he commented on my guitar solo (I think it's at the end of "Loyalty"). He asked if it was supposed to be that askew, which it was. He refered to another band from Fagersta that used to have guitar solos similar to that, Suffer. We filmed parts of these recording sessions, that video exist somewhere in the Brimstone archives.

This time the cover was done much more D.I.Y. on an old computer (I believe we used Paint) and just printed, cut and folded.

The demo got a great review in the demo section of Close-Up Magazine (8 out of 10), a scan of the review is included in the download.

R.I.P. Mieszko!
